The Epson Stylus SX405 is the replacement for the DX8400 to which is shares a striking resemblance, it is most likely that that the SX405 was designed using the DX8400 as a base flat form. This is promising because the DX8400 was good and the SX405 looks to improve on it so should be great. The noticeable differences at first glance are a new sleek finish to the printer’s casing and modifications and improvements to both of the paper trays. The improvements prevent the paper from curling while in the paper tray. In terms of performance the SX405 shares the same four colour ink system as the DX8400 and this produces excellent print quality with bright and vivid colours. Because it uses the same Epson ink system and therefore the same printer ink cartridges which unfortunately means that the SX405 also inherits the high running costs as well. Epson SX405 ink cartridges can be bought individually or in a full set multi-pack which is the most cost efficient way and costs around £30. As well as impressive printing capabilities the SX405 also offers great scanning and photo copying as well as being able to print photos from a memory card if digital cameras without the need for a PC. Scanning needs a PC obviously and is great for breathing new life into old tired photographs using the photo editing software that comes with the device. The photo copier is capable of coping both black and colour documents with speed and efficiency although it not best suited to high volumes on a regular basis. The SX405 has solid feel to it in terms of build quality and comes with a 12 month repair or replace warranty.
